Got to support the local mom and pop shop! Great selection of Mexican food...they have breakfast items here...they sure know how to do chicken right! It's a little hidden, but with del taco close by, I rather come here every single time. It's authentic, delicious, and one of the few authentic Mexican places that take cards without being cash only. Come here to satisfy your craving for great Mexican food!

My boyfriend introduced me to this place, he's been going here for years. Everyone working there is pretty much family. I always get the super chicken nachos w/guacamole + garlic on the side. It really is more than enough for 2-3 people. The food is made as you order and the chickens that are grilling are out on display, visible for customers to see. The place isn't big and parking can be a challenge but there's parking on the street too. The prices are too good to resist especially if you consider the portions that are given. Service is friendly and it's a busy place, lots of traffic coming in and out of this little family restaurant.

I saw all the great reviews and decided to give Super Pollo a try. Like so many people have said, it's a mom and pop shop. I expected tiny, it was tiny. I expected friendly, I got fairly friendly. I saw chicken being grilled and smelled the delish being prepared, I got my burrito and drove the 5 minutes to get home, opened up the bag and found what appeared to be a steamed burrito. The tortilla was warm and wet, but not in a good way, and the chicken and stuffage filling was so-so. I may give it another try, but it will be for the plates I saw being prepared, not the heat and serve 7-11 burrito they gave me instead.

I order the Regular Half Chicken with Garlic Lemon Butter sauce. This comes with salsa and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. If you want rice and refried beans, get the combo meal. The flavor was all there but I just couldn't get past the dryness of the meat. I could tell it was overcooked. I also got corn tortillas instead of flour. The Super Chicken Quesadilla was loaded with chicken and stuffed with cheddar cheese, guac, salsa and lettuce. The meat was a little dry in this as well but with the other wet ingredients, it wasn't too bad. There is limited parking in this area. The seating area is very small inside but there are more tables out in the patio.

Super pollo has been here forever and still rockin some of the best chicken ever. I'm on the far end of the city and always stop by when I'm close by. Breakfast burrito is so good

The most triumphantly crafted Mexican food on the face of the earth. I will fight you if you say otherwise. The cooks at pollo are masters of their trade, which is to blind side your taste buds with oral pleasure . In the beginning, super pollo said let there be tortillas and let them be handmade to order. Fresh of the press , these babies are warm, lightly dusted in flour and will melt in your mouth. The chicken is marinated in a potion handed down by Mayan priests Legends has it god himself created super pollo because it had been prophesized that his only beggoten son, jesus would return as a super chicken taco. Joey c out..

When my family moved to Costa Mesa we needed to find a new spot that we could pickup a hot meal for quick dinners during the week. After reading the Yelp reviews on Super Pollo we decided to give it a try. The chicken is absolutely amazing, one of the best we've had! The tortillas are delicious as is the salsa and pico de gallo. We order out at least 5-6 times a month and enjoy it every time.

When you don't feel like cooking but want home style cooking. Good grilled chicken with fresh beans and rice. Yum yum! Ask for juicy. Friendly family owned service.

Love this place! My dad used to bring a plate home on his lunch break when I was a kid. It's been there FOREVER and still pumping out top quality fresh food.

The best Mexican food in Orange County. Everything is fresh! The chicken combo is my fave.

Husband and I came and ordered: -Super Chicken Burrito with no salsa - 1/4 chicken plate - 2 waters The place is super tiny (four tables that seat 2 each) inside but the staff was very polite, spoke English, and pleasant. They have a huge grill inside with beautiful chicken grilling so no fake meat here. PROS: - Fast service - pretty good selection - good food CONS: - tiny - a bit dingy/dirty - bathroom disgusting

****Grilled Chicken Bathing in Butter!**** ~Super Succulent Breasts-4 Stars! The most tender chicken in Costa Mesa is drowning in a bath of butter and garlic. Freshly flamed, the chicken is tender and hot. Even the breasts were succulent and I was sucking them bone dry! Super delicious buttery breasts. Chicken doesn't get much better than this. If you order a meal, you also get beans and rice along with tortilla. In my opinion, these guys just played the part of a third wheel. The chicken is what it's about. Generally, I am a fan of dark meat. I loved these breasts! ~Dining In There are a few tables inside along with a TV. You can also sit out on the patio. *Bang*- They do sell Orange Bang. I am not a fan and prefer Orange Julius. If you love bangin' it, you can do so here. Yummy Breasts and Bangin' Orange! Look up in the sky..it's a bird, it's a plane... it's Super Pollo! Super Pollo and Bangin' Orange... another reason the OC is the best place to live!

Super Pollo is exactly what it sounds like, SUPER. I've been coming here with my family for years now and today was my bf's 1st time trying it. He loved it. We ordered the half chicken combo which comes with tortillas, beans, rice and salsa for under $10 and a super chicken burrito which was about $6. Both items were so delicious and tasty. They use a garlic/butter/lemon sauce on their chicken and it is out of this world. The establishment is tucked away on an awkward street away from the huge Harbor Ave. It looks shabby and kind of run down. Definitely a hole in the wall establishment but the best. The people are friendly and its been the same cook for many years, thats how you know its a good family owned business. I left full and satisfied. Oh yeah, we'll be coming back. Yum!

Really wanted to like place but just couldn't. If it weren't for the food poisoning I would have given it a solid three stars. I got the chicken burrito and my guy and his bud (who both love the place) got half chicken combos. Portions are friggin huge! I mean it is half a chicken with rice and beans. And a good value for the money. My burrito was tasty (up until a few hours later) but a sopping mess and wrapped poorly. The hot sauce was great though! And what earned this place another star for me. I tried my guys chicken and was left a little wanting, to me it was a little dry and not very "super". Spice level was good.

First time here, I stopped by because I saw it on my way to the Dainese store. GOOD! great chicken, done on the grill but not even close to dry. This is definitely a hidden gem. will be coming here more often, sadly I'm not in that area very much. Great taste on everything, the flour tortillas were delicious, the hot sauce had great flavor and the salsa was fresh. Good quality very tasty. Great staff too!

  • Tony B.

This place is a gem. Hands down the best chicken burrito ive ever had. Salsa did not lie- its hot! On walking up, the setting was quite perfect. Parking is limited but i still got a spot right in front. This place has a giant sign but is still hidden. The entrance is humble and beautifully (outdoor seating is surrounded by greenery). Inside is small. You get a view of the entire kitchen-rows and rows of chicken-it looks perfectly cooked and so delicious. It was nice n warm inside too(its cold out!) The order was cooked to order so it took some time. I do see a lot of people waiting for their food. Burrito was perfect. It dripped a little but i realized that it was from the perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. I will be back. Its basically a hole in the wall but slightly bigger and more welcoming. The place is clean - two workers came to the floor and cleaned up during my visit.

Don't listen to the haters, this place has the goods. I come here as often as once a week, and never have i been disappointed with the food or anything from this place. My go to has been the half chicken combo (with butter and garlic) and that is a feast that can fill me up and leave me with leftovers. However lately, i have been trying their super pollo burritos, and they are delish. Just today got my first ever super asada burrito, and it was better than i could have imagined. Must try some more of the asada dishes! I will continue to come here and get my craving for good fresh wholesome food and hope you do the same.

Nam Nam Nam. A friend introduced me to this spot and I'm thankful that he did. Whenever I'm in the area I try and get some SUPER POLLO! The chicken is moist, great seasoning, and is flame broiled. Good grub...rice, beans, and tortillas. The bizzle. The hot sauce is pretty good. Small place and can get busy and crowded during a lunch rush, but worth the wait. Only a few peeps behind the counter that are very friendly....and they seem to have a ton of regulars that they know by name. Must be the food! Parking is a little tight. Good price, great food, clean, AND a happy belly.

I was excited to try this place after seeing all the high reviews but the chicken was too charred for me. I got the half chicken combo with the garlic sauce. The rice was very good but the chicken was too overcooked for me.

The best chicken place in OC!! Their beans, rice, and tortillas are really good as well.to They get very busy on Saturday evenings. I'm ok with waiting as the food is well worth it.

Great spot for breakfast burritos and quesadillas. Each about 6 bucks! Portions are huge and flavor and ingredients are fresh. This is a local dive restaurant so don't expect it to be fancy. It's definitely a hole in the wall. Highly recommend!

Love this place! We've been coming since 23 years! We moved away for about 10 yrs, and recently returned to visit friends. Needless to say we were excited to still see Super Pollo still thriving! They're lemon butter and garlic chicken well before El Pollo Loco. They have the best chicken and everything else just falls into place too. Regardless of ur getting a half or whole chicken or just a chicken burrito their food is the bomb!

Awesome chicken!!! Chicken is cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce is to die for. WARNING DO NOT GET THE GARLIC SAUCE IF YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK!! I did once and I had to chew mentos for the last part of the day. They have your usual chicken plates with beans and Rice. They also have burritos and I also noticed a breakfast menu but have not had the chance to try it. If you are tired of El Pollo Loco try this place. You won't regret it. If you go at lunch call it in and good luck finding a place to eat. You will either have to get it to go or find a local park.

I was craving mexican grilled chicken and had heard that Super Pollo was a good spot. I ordered the half chicken combo that was priced at $8.49. They give you the choice of seasonings on your chicken. I ordered garlic, lemon and butter seasoning which they do by coating the chicken with a really tasty buttery, garlicky sauce that is really yummy. The chicken is grilled, moist and very flavorful. On the side, they give you refried beans, rice, salsa and fresh flour tortillas. When you put the tasty chicken and the other sides into a fresh warm tortilla, it is a yummy bite of food. I enjoyed my meal at Super Pollo. Great little spot.

I have been going to super pollo for many years and have always been satisfied. Yesterday was the exception I waited for over 15 minutes for two quesadillas and a small drink. On top of that the total was 20 dollars! Your off your game super pollo

Had lunch at Super Pollo last Sunday and I was blown away by the food. Ordered a 1/4 Chicken with Rice, Beans and Tortillas. Everything was cooked to perfection, seasoned correctly and serves up fast. All for less than $8. Wow! I've been driving by this place since It opened and never stopped in. What a good experience.

We had the carne asada burrito & carne asada nachos. The carne asada was very good. Nachos were just ok. The chips were not very flavorful & several stuck together at a time. If they were separated then we'd have gotten more toppings in each bite therefore I would have enjoyed them more. We'd go back to try something else.

Dang... can't believe this place. I've been a couple times now since my last review and the last time I went it was fine. But this time I don't know what was up. I ordered the Super Chicken Burrito ($5.99) + fries ($1.99) and was charged $9.03... according to my calculations, which factors in an 8% sale tax rate, I should have been charged $8.62 or so. I asked the cashier about this and he kinda responded with the classic "Sorry, this is what it rung up as and I don't give a $$$$" attitude. He was like "the fries came up as $2.50" and when I asked if the prices went up he was like "this is factoring in tax" - since when did 8% tax become 50 cents on $1.99 fries? Unless he said "$2.15" - who knows...all I know is I was charged more than I should have been and he didn't even blink an eye as to accommodate. Whatever.... onto the food. The chicken in the burrito was pretty dry. It would have also been nice if they salted the fries a little. The burrito was definitely smaller than what I've known "super burritos" to be as well. It was filling, just not as big... at this rate though, I might as well have just gone to Chipotle, or better yet, spent my money at Del Taco around the corner. Not impressed with the food this time and even less happy about the service. Maybe it was just one of those off-nights or something...

I'm a sucker for hole in the wall Mexican spots and Super Pollo doesn't disappoint. Had a breakfast burrito yesterday and just had the chicken burrito for lunch today. Both were bomb. The chicken was juicy, salsa was flavorful and had the perfect kick to it, and the price was right. I like that they add beans to the breakfast burrito, seems like no one ever does that. All 3 employees were friendly and helpful to me. I can see how this place can be a nightmare when busy, luckily it was slow today due to the rain. Can't wait to try the garlic chicken, smells soooo good!

Our first time here, and we were super disappointed after reading all the reviews. I ordered the Quarter chicken meal. Despite already being slathered with the butter garlic sauce, it was still EXTREMELY dry. The cashier told me next time to specify I want juicy chicken as, he claims, they had both types but "some people like their chicken super dry!" I was in disbelief. Really? Who To make matters worse a Mexican guy who appeared to be either related to the staff there or a regular from his demeanor, started slyly snickering with the cashier but I caught it on my way out the door. Never coming back.

Consistently awesome rotisserie pollo, fast service and Orange Bang in a super large cup...OF COURSE they deserve 5 stars. Have been hitting this joint since the 90s....can't go wrong with a killer meal after a session.

Great chicken. Usually get the 1/4 chicken special with garlic lemon butter. Have also tried the chicken quesadilla which was also good. Definitely eat in while the food is still hot. Been coming here for the past 20 years. Hasn't changed. Always awesome.

  • Amanda M.

Great little hole in the wall. The place doesn't look too promising from the outside, but trust me, it's good food. If you're looking for a quick easy and yummy meal this is your spot. My boyfriend and I love the butter garlic herb whole chicken with rice and beans. Their pico de gallo and guac are bomb. It's pretty inexpensive and can feed us for two days! These guys work hard and make a great chicken.

If you're hungry and want something super savory, Super Pollo to the rescue!!( well at least to tame your chicken craving).. I always enjoy the flavorful taste of SP, and its a nice change from the usual chicken suspects that are the norm. There is an interesting touch to this super chicken. It must be the overpowering Garlic which if you don't have any issues with, is amazing total deliciousness. Add the beans, rice and tortillas - you cant go wrong for good chicken for one night. Establishment is small. Service is average, and place is fairly clean. KNOW before you GO: Location is on a side street that may be hard to find at first. Be sure to Google map it just to be sure. Also, parking is available where you can find it. There are 3 parking spaces right in front and a few if you see open spots, but pretty much its street parking. Downsides: Dining in is a little tight, not too much space. Wait times can be long for take out. Awesome TIPS: 1.)Call ahead - way ahead if you can - So much easier to pick up your order for take out. 2.) Be sure to try the Red sauce -- sexy spicy! yummmmmm! 3.) Beware: if you are taking this home for a meal, its overpowering enough to linger in your car for a day or two. But we foodies don't mind right? invest in some febreze if you like. OverALL: Delish. Garlic & Lemon butter are BFF's with this meal. Super Pollo is def worth a try!

Always so yummy and fresh the wait is always a bit longer than like del taco but sooooooo worth it. It's very small and the pricing is OK but mmmmmmmmmmmso so goood

  • Corey P.

Reasonable pricing. Super chicken burrito was good. 7 bucks even. Super chicken nachos were a bit better. The place is not spectacular but good for the price. People who work there are great. Very friendly and super nice. Place is small and a little hard to find. Definitely a hole in the wall mexican place. Might be worth a look cause they prepare it quick and the chicken alone is very good.

  • McHungr Y.

Dayamn!!! Get the half chicken,..... Get it with the garlic, lemon, thingy sauce,..... Stuff you happy little face. Your mouth and stomach will thank you. The meat falls off the bone, yet it's still moist and juicy. I don't know what spices they use, but it really compliments the chicken. All this for under $10 ?!!! I dare ya to find a better deal around the Costa Mesa/Newport area. Double dog dare ya!

  • Freddy F.

I can't count how many times I've been here these past years. Probably at least once a week! Anyway, their chicken here is amazing! We love coming here and the guys here are always friendly. Their chicken is grilled and well seasoned with garlic, butter and lemon - makes my mouth water! Do yourself a favor and get yourself some chicken here ASAP! Furthermore, their chicken soup is awesome too! Although, I would suggest that they throw in some corn and bigger pieces of chicken to make it more homemade. Thanks guys!

This is a solid place to come for tacos. I've been rolling by this place and it appeared odd, so it has taken us years to finally stop by today. There are random stickers from all over and somehow they still desperately try to keep a beach city theme vibe. Just check out their pollo surfing. The place hardly has any indoor seating, but luckily there is an outdoor area perfect for a quick bite. Ambiance is super simple and not much to rave about, but the fact is it's a taco joint that serves tasty chicken. The tacos seem large, because they serve larger tortillas with a healthy portion of awesome tender meats. For a healthy version, their all white meat chicken taco is a good option. If you're feeling like you need the flavors to pop, go with the asada tacos. I was particularly hungry, so even given the larger than normal tacos I was able to devour 3 tacos with room for possibly one more. Their salsa is addictive and they're not shy about serving them in larger salsa cups. I'm glad about their salsa cup, since they don't have a self serve salsa bar. $3 for each taco is totally worth it. Come hungry, leave feliz!

    (4)
  • James H.

Wow. Never have I tasted so much flavor on chicken before. The garlic is so savory and compliments the tender juicy chicken very well. This place is a block down from me... Very dangerous.

  • Farzan N.

One of the best mexican restaurants around. Extra garlic, lemon, and butter (can't go wrong) on their family combo. Also tried out their carne asada one night and it was almost the size of a regular burrito.

  • Humberto C.

Never going back I specifically said no onions and it's like they added extra. I called in the order as I work pretty far from here once I got back the "chicken" nachos were more like soggy bean and cheese nachos. Not sure what all the good reviews are all about but customer service sucked food sucked I will give them one thing though the salsa was great.

  • Nick M.

Unfortunately I need to drop a couple of stars due to my last experience. Had family and friends over on a Sunday and decided to get some Super Pollo. Made sure to call ahead so I could swing in and pick it up quickly. Ordered a 20pc combo and some taquitos, enchiladas and burritos. They said no problem, 40 minutes. Nice. I gave them an additional 10 minutes to get things together and showed up 50 minutes later. Cut to 90 minutes later (yup, hour and a half) and I finally leave with my order. What is the point of calling in an order, receiving a pick up time, and then having to wait an additional 40 mintues once I arrive? Bad form. There's no excuse for that kind of service, and if there is I certainly didn't hear it because there was never any mention of an apology about the wait or delay. Bad form again. Basically, I'd never trust this place with any large (or important) orders again. Or any orders that need to meet a specified time. Or lunch if in a limited lunch time frame. The chicken is good, but the service is slow, and unreliable. I'd really like to recommend this place but i can't, and that bums me out.

  • Belle N.

This place is always sooo good I can't believe I haven't been here in such a long time! Got the chicken taco combo and the husband got chicken taco and a carne asada tacos too... I love sitting outside in the shaded seats and enjoying our meals here...I like the rice and beans that come with the combos as well...it was a definite nice Sunday afternoon meal to be shared in a breezy day! I am definitely coming back sooner than later!

first time I've been here - and I ordered a whole chicken with all the sides (11am) everything came nice and warm, and the flavor was awesome. However, when I began eating, the chicken seemed a bit dried out. surprising, since I picked it up before the major lunch rush - wouldn't have thought that the chicken would be lying around getting re-warmed for very long? The flavor was great - I LOVED the pico de gallo and tomatillo sauces - and the flour tortillas were very fresh, flavorful, and warm. Can't review the beans or rice, as I am on a diet :)

I currently live in San Antonio, but I am originally from Orange County. I am home for the week and the first thing I went to eat after I landed was SUPER POLLO! There are not a lot of foods a crave... I am excited to say Super Pollo is one of them. They always serve perfectly grilled, moist chicken. What I love most about the chicken is the crack garlic sauce they pour over the chicken once it's off the grill. If you are a garlic lover Super Pollo chicken is for you!

  • Denise H.

Parking: Horrible Food: Even worse if that's humanly possible. The hubs and I got up super duper early to do a few things so we thought it would be a good idea to stop in here to pick up a couple of breakfast burritos...WRONG! Well I guess RIGHT if you enjoy totally tasteless eats. I love the odd ball hole-in-the-wall just as much as the next gringa and this place looks ghetto enough to be promising. Hubs and I have eaten here years ago and it's just as bad now as it was then...nothings changed. I don't understand all the Yelpers who rave about this joint, the food tastes like cardboard and pouring on the putrid salsa they give you makes it taste even worse. Avoid this place.

  • Matt B.

Went yesterday with my wife. I ordered the Super Chicken Burrito and it was great! Very authentic. It doesn't pack the flavor that you can get when adding a ton of ingredients at Chipotle...but it's great because of its authenticity. My wife got the chicken nachos. Those were great as well. The chicken has such a great flavor. We also got a side of the salsa (2oz) and guacamole (12oz). Both were very flavorful and authentic and a great value. Especially the guacamole. You get a 12oz cup for $2.99. I don't even want to think of what that would cost in Atlanta (where we live), but it's probably between $6-$8. Drink selection needs to be bigger though, and seating is at a minimum.

Great Chicken! Forget El Pollo Loco! Super Pollo has much better seasoned chicken. The garlic chicken is awesome. Full of flavor and not overpowered by garlic, incase you were wondering. They also have much better sides than many other similar types of places. Its a small shop and the wait is a bit longer, but excellent to get a big chicken meal for your family or yourself.

Went here for lunch today and what a delicious delight! Ordered the 1/2 chicken combo with "dark meat" with the garlic butter sauce. The sauce is amazing!! I couldn't get enough! The meat literally falls off the bone. The hot sauce that it comes with is super tasty! The rice and retried beans are delicious as well! Unlike many fast food restaurants, the plates come out very hot (temp). Speedy service and cute outside decor. Can't wait to go back!

I've mentioned in multiple reviews that the bf and I are obsessed with mexican food, so when he told me he just LOVED the chicken burrito at this place, of course I had to try it. It's a oddly placed hole in the wall mexican joint. The outdoor seating is nice if it's not too cold or windy, and the small indoor seating area is fine too. My whole experience here was not great. They had Avatar playing on the TV inside, and it was right at the beginning of the saddest part of the movie. And it was on kinda loud so you couldn't help but pay attention. I desperately did not want to watch this super sad part of this movie(I get a little emotional about movies), so after we ordered we went to sit outside. Well, it was just too damn cold so we went back to Avatar and horribleness. Honestly, why do they even have a TV in here? Like, there are 4 tables that can really only fit 8 people, and not even comfortably. What are you trying to accomplish? If they had sports on it would have been way less distracting and made more sense, and I don't even like sports. ANYWAY, when the food came out I was happy for a distraction from sad movie. But, to my dismay, my burrito was not good. I was REALLY REALLY hungry, so I ate the whole thing, but it had like no flavor, and I did not enjoy the textures. Nothing about it was offensive really, I just will never eat one again. And I didn't like the beans, which is the real deal breaker. Bad beans? Ugh. The bf likes it, so he can eat here without me. He doesn't eat beans, so he'll never be saddened by them. Just Avatar.

Best chicken in Costa Mesa. Really helpful staff and great hot sauce. Super Pollo Bowl is my favorite.

This place is great! Off the beaten path Mexican chicken house and other Mexican foods as well. Think el pollo loco but authentic. Appears to be a mom and pop shop. I love supporting small business especially when the quality is there, and it is! I love the garlic/lemon bird. Limited seating. I usually grab and go unless I'm dropping on for a quick bite. Check it out!

This place has the best chicken in town! Get it with garlic, lemon, and butter. Reasonable price for what you get.

I got the super chicken quesadilla. The portion was huge, it was basically a flat burrito. The chicken was a bit dry but was still delicious and they definitely do not skimp on the portion of meat. The guacamole inside was so-so and the hot sauce was not spicy at all, just salty.

Holy #*$% I LOVE Super Pollo! Their quesadillas are the best in town (if you can even call it a quesadilla). I recommend this shop to everyone looking for good mexican food in the area. The shop is rather small with not a lot of room to sit down and eat, however, the food is so good I would sit on a curb to eat it! :) Employees are really nice too!

How can anyone not give this place 5 stars. Hands down the best chicken I have ever had in my life and I have traveled quite a but. The seasoning is perfect and the customer service is superb. I always feel appreciated every time I come in. Has a hole in the wall feel bc it is super tiny but that makes the experience feel authentic.

The carne Asada burrito I got turned out to be mostly beans, which was slightly disappointing considering how hungry I was. Luckily I got some chicken tacos as well which were pretty good. As the name implies, chicken is their strength.

update this place just is damn dependable. the steak taste like it was bbq'd right there....cause it actually was was bbq'd right there on the huge grill, no steamer trays like chipotle or heat lamps just a grill big enough for a smart car. If you ever want to see a group of happy people go to a line at this place everyone is in chow-down mode well except for clowns like Jeremy L. below Mr.pythagorean theorem, who spent 30 min typing up a review which focused on the sales tax and how he was over charged 29 cents, hey loser stick a damn crow bar in your purse, or look in my couch for your next bonus!! bet that guy is great on a great date girls lol

On my quest to find delicious grilled chicken, I was on my way a week ago to watch the sunset on Newport Beach when I saw POLLO tucked away on the side of the street. I turned almost illegally immediately and parked at the aut store beside it. I walked in almost a standing room only joint to find some patrons at smaller tables eating beautiful looking chicken. I ordered a quarter chicken plate with rice, beans and grilled jalapeno. I was asked which flavor pollo I wanted. Not knowing and half understanding the cashier due to mumbling, I am pretty sure I got the garlic, lemon and butter. My plate was ready in 5 minutes and I took it outside on the patio. I ate peacefully & really enjoyed the delicious tender chicken. Tortillas came with and the beans and rice were also delectable. $8 and 15 min later I was stuffed. I wil ldefinitely be back here.

This place is awesome..........super chicken available in many flavors. The breakfast burritos are excellent as well......should probably give 5 stars, but parking is always such a pain in the arse that I guess i gave it 4 stars. Forget el pollo loco, you wont go back there once you try this chicken.

The chicken is good, the service is OK. The parking for this place sucks and there is usually a line. We eat here 5 or 6 tines a year so it must be good enough.

I don't usually drive out of the way to eat at a restuarant, but for some reason this restaurant was the exception. I was craving some el pollo loco type food, but not el pollo loco. I did my research and this restaurant popped up. It was sevaral miles out of the way from where I usually go, but I'm glad I tried this place out because it pretty much blew el pollo loco out of the water in terms of quality and service. I have to agree with the majority here that the garlic chicken is pretty awesome. I have to add that mine was a bit dry but I think it had to do with the fact that I waited 30 minutes after I got my food to eat it. The super chicken nacho was also muy delioso. However, I feel that the nacho would have been much tastier without the beans. I think the beans kind of ruined what was otherwise a nigh perfect dish/appetizer. The place is kind of hard to locate and the parking is kind confusing (i'm not that familiar with the area), but if you are willing to get past all of that, it is definitely a place worth trying out.

I am one of those people that firmly believe in the potential greatness of hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Super Pollo is just one of those places that never disappoints. It is one of my families favorite go-to places. Whats Good? As the name would suggest, the chicken! It is roasted so well that all of the fat has rendered off leaving a thin layer of crispy delicious skin. You can also get it with garlic butter and hot sauce on the side. The chicken burrito is also good, and quite large. I recommend everyone that likes chicken try this place out. The End.

Their Chicken Burritos (who would have guessed?) are amazing. But what about breakfast you ask? Well, let me tell you something; Chicken Breakfast Burritos are even more amazing (who would have guessed?). The folks are nice, the salsa is delicious, the service is quick. This has become one of my go-to's in the rotation since my first visit. Auf

Damn good for chicken!! The garlic chicken kicks the crap outta any other "rotisserie" chicken in the area. The super chicken nachos are a meal in itself. Bottom line, come here hungry.

  • Stacey D.

All the reviews are right on: this is great flame grilled chicken: the garlic, the butter (not sure if it's real butter, but oh well, it is tasty!), and lemon. Been coming here since 1992. Sometimes the chicken is a little dried out and over cooked, so it's been docked a star. Chicken burritos were good for years here, but recently not my favorite anymore; taste for them has diminished. Breakfasts are very good here.

Off the beaten path near Michaels and the old Tower Records. Service was great about 4-5 tables inside with 2 outside. The Fire grilled chicken in my opinion is better than Charo chicken. I got the Nachos which was enough to feed me for 2 days but I think the flavors of the chicken were lost in this form. My BF go the burrito and that too smothered the flavors of the chicken. Next time im just going to do a plate. Unfortunately the person that assembled the burrito didnt do the best job of de-boning it so that made it kind of difficult to eat. Not the cheapest in the neighborhood but fair for the quality I think. I recommend getting the chicken in the purest form and making your own little tacos. Yum

  • Sharon D.

I'm not sure why we haven't tried this in the past. It's been there forever. The chicken was a little on the dry side, probably because we went in off hours. It had great flavor and I bet when it is fresh off the rotisserie it is amazing. The refried beans were hard and flavorless, I was extremely disappointed in this finding. I never eat spanish rice, but since the beans were not good, I embarked on the rice and this was redeeming. The guacamole was watery, which was a bummer. I believe they must have mixed the pico de gallo with the avocado to come to that consistency. the flour tortillas were excellent. I will have to venture back at a lunch time or dinner time to get a better perspective. This experience needed better timing.

Still really good food! I ordered breakfast burritos for pickup this Saturday. The breakfast burrito has scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheese, pinto beans and a choice of meat. The burrito was good, but next time I might ask if they can cook the eggs over medium and always with bacon. I was able to have two meals from the one burrito and at the price of $3.99, its a great deal!

This hole in the wall delivers some of the most authentic Mexican food in Orange County. My family and I have been going here for many years, and it never disappoints. The garlic lemon chicken, the beans, and the salsa are all we need to have an incredible lunch or dinner. Don't be afraid of the outer appearance and of the chicken with the cape. This dive and the chicken are gems.

There's something about hole in the wall places that produce amazing food....Super Pollo is no exception. If you've driven down Newport Blvd you've driven past Super Pollo and probably don't even know it...I didn't the first time I tried to pick up dinner here. Parking is pretty non-existent here but I've been lucky to always snag a spot out front. I'm assuming the teeny dining area doesn't attract many dine-in customers so traffic flows really easily. The menu is your basic Mexican fare (burritos, tacos, quesadillas, tortas, etc) alongside rotisserie chicken. Everything is under $10 (minus family size chicken portions) so it's a good deal too. You can get fish and carne asada but why would you stray from chicken at a place called Super Pollo? I honestly haven't tried anything except for the chicken though so maybe I'm the fool..who knows! I always get the 1/2 lemon garlic chicken with beans and rice. It's a ton of food and can easily be shared if you're not ravenous. The chicken comes with the skin on which makes the meat moist and tender...a MUST for me when judging chicken. Next time you want to grab something quick and easy for dinner...grab Super Pollo.

I wish I found this place sooner! My first time here I decided to get a chicken burrito and it was really good. I really liked the salsa that they gave me when going take out, it added flavor and spice. I really liked the burrito because it had amazing seasoned chicken, beans, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and guacamole. I see other pictures on Yelp with chicken plates, and I think I am going to try that next. I have to admit this place knows its chicken. I will miss this place when I move to Irvine. It kind of reminds me of Pollos Hermanos in the AMC show Breaking Bad.

By far one of my favorite Mexican style chicken places. The chicken is always juicy and with the garlic sauce it just tastes so good. The flour tortillas taste fresh and the jalapeños cooked on the grill are awesome. A whole chicken should easily be enough for three people. Definitely a hidden gem in costa Mesa.

It's a hole-in-the-wall place that has good chicken (but not "super"). There is barely any difference between the sizes of the Jr. Nachos and the regular size nachos - both are huge. Horchata and other Mexican drinks here are not authentic since they are just that Ole machine stuff.

  • Sean S.

This place is right off of Superior and Newport in Costa Mesa and you need to be aware if it's location or else you may miss it. The restaurant is very small and only has like three tables inside. Most of the space is the kitchen, so this place is designed for pick-up-to-go orders. The chicken is very good here and the pricing is a little less than at Charro Chicken. The birds and large and cooked with care, so you won't end up with chicken jerky, but moist and juicy chicken. They also serve it with garlic butter sauce, which adds to the great flavors. Also, they serve really good taquitos here and you won't go wrong with ordering them either.

Awesome hole in the wall. Parking and seating is minimal, but food is sooo worth it. The carne asada nachos are amazing. Chicken quesadilla is pretty good. But the garlic chicken combo plate is a must. Make sure to get an extra side (or two) of the garlic sauce and you will be set. Favorites: Carne Asada Nachos & Garlic Chicken Combo Plate

Super Pollo is Super delicious!! Tried out this spot for the first time last night. Its not your typical mexican chichen place. I had the chicken breast combo and the meat was all white meat with the perfect crisp! The garlic was insane. My favorite part of it was the hot spicy salsa. Great touch ! I'll definitely be coming back here even though its not the most convenient location. Its well worth the drive!! Super Pollo Rock!! Service was great and the food was amazing!!

I miss places like this. Since I'm in south county, I am deprived of them. I almost gave this a 4, kind of like when I haven't watched tv in a decade and I get excited about commercials and think they are awesome. I didn't order the chicken but the bf did. I ordered myself a fish taco combo with beans, rice, side of guacamole & sour cream and a lemonade and got a fish burrito combo. However, my meal was as epic as can be....EXCEPT that the guacamole was of the Costco variety, slimy with more onions and tomato than avocado. The bf raved about the chicken...something about the best goddamn chicken on the planet. Super Pollo is a small joint with a few tables inside and one outside with an umbrella. Cheap eats, spare parking. The point is, they sell chicken, and some other things, and it is super. Would love to try the chicken myself next time.

This place is just alright. Don't know why its so hyped up?! did ya'll get secret blowjobs off the menu or something? I ended up getting the chicken burrito with the garlic and lemon butter. which sounds good already, and i was looking forward to eat it since i was starving... Don't get me wrong, it did its job. it filled me up...but it wasn't satisfying... it was messy. the bottom was dripping juice and got all over my hands. and i found chicken bones in my burrito. no bueno. the spicy sauce they give you is alright. it does it job. adds more flavor to the burrito. however for the price i paid for it, i don't think i'll return. which sucks, because i love hole in the walls places. =/ Parking is weird. you gotta find a spot on the street or park in the pseudo-lot in front of golden truffle.

This hole-in-the-wall spot is located in good ole Costa Mesa. It's about 5 minutes from my casa, and I always happen to drive by it. You can't miss their logo of a chicken dressed in Superman attire. Or should I say Super Pollo attire? Anyway, I always said to myself "I need to eat there one day". Finally, that day arrived. I know this placed is called "Super Pollo", but their asada super nachos were awesome! Order the jr. size nachos because the regular size is a beast. Unless of course you are a beast and can handle that much food. The asada was cooked well, and the chips weren't bad either. I can recommend this on your first try here. Since this place is famous for their chicken, I had to order something on the menu that contained some pollo. I'm a sucker for flautas, and whenever I see them on a menu, I order it. Chicken flautas to be exact. If you don't know what flautas are, they're basically a bigger, crispier, flakier, version of the taquito. If you don't know what a taquito is, well god help you. I've had better flautas elsewhere. The flautas here were a bit soggy. It could be from the fact that they were surrounded with guacamole and sour cream. I love both of those, but I suggest putting them aside from the flautas because I love them crispy. The chicken inside wasn't a big deal. Tastes just like any other chicken. No wow factor whatsoever. I need to try their regular flame broiled chicken next time to evaluate what they're known for. I'll give them 3 Stars for now until that day comes. I picture Super Pollo flying away now as I end my review.

The OC register has been consistently over rating restaurants. Someone must be on the take there. Consistently terrible food is hyped in their newspaper. I gave them another chance today and went to Super Pollo. Salty Salty Salty. That is my review. The rice, beans and chicken where so salty that it was unbearable. I will not EVER use another review by the OC register since they either do not know what good food tastes like or they accept bribes.

After our unsatisfactory meal at Eat Chow, we stopped by here to try and salvage whatever we could of the huge disappointment we were all feeling. Super Pollo is one of those Mexican style grilled chicken places you find dotted around Santa Ana. I've only found one or two of these places which churn out great tasting chicken, but now I've added another to my list. We got a burrito, quarter chicken with beans and rice, as well as a quesadilla to share between us. My friend asked for the lemon garlic sauce -- which is already drizzled on top of the chicken -- so he could slather more on his chicken. It looked really unappetizing but goddamn! It sure tasted heavenly! The chicken is also perfectly grilled with paprika and other seasonings. I like how they left the skin on -- crispy with moist meat under it. I'm usually not a burrito fan because I don't like beans and rice mixed with my meat, salsa, guacamole and whatever else they like to throw into a burrito. I took a bite of this one and believe it or not, it was quite tasty. I still don't like the beans and rice in it, but it was really good. The quesadilla is what blew us all away. It was HUGE and they put salsa, guac and everything else in it. It wasn't flat like ordinary quesadillas are but all puffed up like a huge pocket. Their salsa roja is also very tasty! I woulda liked it to be spicier and I didn't know they had sauteed jalapenos until I read the reviews on here. Next time I'll be sure to ask for some to kick my chicken up a notch! Highly recommended when you want a meal super charged with flavor!

I have been eating here since I was a kid in the Eighties and this is still, by far, the best grilled chicken I have ever had. The food has been exactly the same high quality consistency since day one and several hundred meals later, it tastes like the first time I experienced my favorite chicken. ( I have been trying to recreate it at home but, it never turns out as good. I always pick the owners brain for tips and he insists the key is to use the best quality and freshest ingredients.) Similar to Juan Pollo or El Pollo Loco but, way better chicken and their own garlic-butter, lemon sauce takes it over the top. Either get a half or whole chicken and make your own tacos or the burrito is epic (ask for extra garlic butter!). I have never tried the asada as, the chicken is just to good to miss. They are now serving breakfast and wouldn't you know it, the chorizo is the best I have ever tasted and I am a chorizo aficionado. I have missed the breakfast cutoff a few times and go with the chicken burrito with extra garlic sauce and have never been disappointed. Great, now I'm hungry for Super Pollo....

If You haven't been there just go, it's the best. If you find better let me know. I also can't believe I haven't reviewed Super Pollo. I am only reviewing it now to pass on the follow advice and commas. Here's the tip of the day: They tend to cook the chicken a little on the dry side, some people like it that way, if you want it juicy, just ask, they are more than happy to get you what you want. All I know is they have never disappointed me especially since I found out I could ask for it juicy. Who could say no to Lemon, Butter and Garlic?

Oh man, this place has the most amazing chicken I've ever had. Total hole-in-the-wall and i was a bit nervous when my friend brought me here at lunch for the first time... boy was is good. I swear they put some addictive chemical in the chicken that makes you crave it fortnightly. I can only speak for the Quarter Chicken "Regular" (white meat) with Garlic and flour tortillas - I'm drooling on my keyboard as I think if this delicious amazingness that is Super Pollo chicken. Crispy skin, lemony super garlic-y sauce with fresh pico de gallo. Hot tortillas that, if they aren't made on the premises, they sure taste like they were made from a homemade recipe by your friend's 90-year old grandmother. Too bad that every few times i've been, the meat has been a bit dry, but not horribly so. It doesn't matter tho, i still keep coming back. I seriously crave this chicken and find it hard to drive by the area at lunch time without stopping for a bite.

This is the spot for some yummy ass food right after the beach or if you're just finna munch on some mexican food. Despite the semi expensive price for tacos theyre so worth it ! The tacos are really baby burritos and theyre just so good ! Everything is just so good! I absolutely love the salsa and the guac! The only thing I'd have to bash on this place is that the tortillas arent really that great but everything I else is awesome!

For a place that goes by the name "Super Pollo", they have some damn good carne asada. I've driven by this place a million times always thinking it was a joke. But this place is no joke. Big portions, fresh and delicious food and definitely a hole in the wall. I got the quarter chicken plate which was good. Came with fresh corn tortillas. My only knock was the chicken was a little to garlicy, but that's not a big problem. Also got a carne asada burrito which was also delicious. A big taco with everything i like especially a lot of guacamole. Horchata was decent although it was from a machine. Good local spot I'll come back to.

Ordered a chicken burrito. They gave me some breakfast burrito. The owner looks at the cook and start talking trash in Spanish thinking Im white and don't understand. Funny thing is that Im.Mexican and speak Spanish too. They make me the correct burrito but the wrapping is horrible and they obviously used the same tortillas just scraped some stuff out. My buddy asked for a refill and they wanted 50 cents. Who charges for refills in fountain drinks ?? The 3rd guy I was with later got an upset stomach then diahrea. I was really hoping this place would be good but not for us. Oh and parking sucks. They have like 2 parking spaces.

Got take out here with friends and the chicken was great. Got the lemon, butter, garlic and it reminded us of Boiling Crab. All it was missing was some spiciness. I went back another day and got a carne aside burrito and was quite disappointed. Being from San Diego I've had great fast food Mexican and the carne asada here has nothing on SD Mexican joints. Just stick to ordering the chicken.

  • Anne M.

Garlic, lemon butter...need I say more. Don't plan on eating in the restaurant as there is only a handful of tables. This place is best for take out so you can eat like a pig behind closed doors. No one needs to see me elbows deep in a chicken carcass covered in butter. In any case, the chicken is really good especially if you are a garlic fan like me.

This place is legit. 1/4 chicken combo is $6 and feeds me and my wife. This place destroys El Pollo Loco's flame-broiled chicken. I seriously eat here 2-3 times a month. You should also try the Carne Asada steak "soft taco" which is more like a burrito. It's so cheap and so good. Great value for your money. This place rocks.

Three and a half actually. I guess people hyped this place up way too much for me. The chicken is good, and I do like the salsa! Prett cheap as well. Cheapest Fresh Guacamole you can buy, thats for sure! Ill be back

OMG, their chicken is good! I usually go to El Pollo Supremo in San Francisco. But this place totally kicks El Pollo's ass. I ordered their fish taco. It was alright. But their chicken....OMG...It was SO FLAVORFUL! I believe it was around $16-$18 for a whole chicken. Their super burritos were pretty cheap too. Under $7. If you're ever around the area, I highly recommend their chicken. Btw, this place is pretty tiny so seats are limited. However, there is seating otuside. Service was also very friendly. Enjoy! 4.5 stars

Can't go wrong here. Good prices and great food, and more than ample servings. Not over the top crazy large but more than enough. They really know their chicken. The Super Chicken burrito is always a safe bet. Honestly from what I can gather there whole menu is. I strayed from my regular menu item here last time and got the Super Fish Tacos on Corn Tortilla. That is now my favorite. The fish is not battered just baked or fried in all it's fishy goodness. Everything about the fish taco was perfection. I honestly felt a bit silly I didn't try them earlier. For a place that is known for it's chicken, I'm more than impressed on how excellent the fish tacos are. Their fish taco absolutely destroys all the chains and competition. Why not add Super Pescado to the name.

I grew up eating here... Fresh, moist, wonderful POLLO! This place is outstanding! Get a whole chicken...or a giant burrito...or tacos or taquitos or NACHOS! I LOVE SUPER POLLO! You will not be disappointed. It's not fancy, their bathroom isn't going to be clean, there is almost no where to sit or park but their food is delicious. Big portions, hot, fresh, flavorful and soooo yummy!

I've been thinking of trying this place for ages and finally did today. Got a quarter chicken combo with lemon, garlic and butter and it was yum yum. I wolfed it down and after wards felt like a dum dum. I've been living 3 miles away for the past few years and don't know why I never stopped by before. Cheap food, generous portions and tasty. It's a hole in the wall so I guess it goes by logic that the food has to be good.

I've been here several times and I must say you gotta go with the regular chicken with the Lemon Garlic Butter or you may be disappointed and wonder why the rating are so high here. I've been here when the chicken is tender and juicy with the right amount of spices, and times where the chicken is dry and not very tasty because of it. Their guac salsa is very tasty and a great combo with the chicken. The place is small and parking is thin, depending on the time of day you go it can get pretty busy with not much room to stand or eat.

It seems that lately I've been going to a lot of places that I just feel are alright but not spectacular, and Super Pollo falls into that category for me. I've been meaning to eat here for over 2 years yet it was never one of those places that I thought "today's Super Pollo Day". But I finally did try it - ordered the 1/4 chicken combo and the better half got a chicken burrito. The chicken tasted great, although a bit dry. The wing that came with it was so shriveled that I tried to get some meat from it, but it was more like jerky. The burrito was fresh and tasty, although I think should've been livened up more with some spice. Be careful of the parking, because if you have a large car, you'll be sticking out onto the street. And people driving on the street don't pay attention so well. I will give it another try and maybe opt for the nachos or taquitos.

3.5 stars... GREAT: tomatillo salsa (tart, spicy... the chicken would be lost without it!), pico de gallo (amazing!), # of tortillas they give you (5 or 6, I lost count because I couldn't eat them all!) GOOD: garlic lemon butter chicken (but I honestly find El Pollo Loco to be more moist and well-seasoned), fluffy seasoned rice, friendly service. I'm all about tons of garlic, but the flavors just didn't do it for me. Other than the garlic (and loads of paprika sprinkled on top), it was somewhat "bland" if that is even possible or makes sense! I guess you could say it was kind of a "one-note" deal in the flavor department... I could taste garlic and not much else, including the lemon and butter that was supposedly there. NOT SO GOOD: Refried beans. Blech. A little over $6 for the quarter chicken combo... I guess I'd rather spend less at Pollo de Oro in Fullerton... and I like their chicken better!

YUM!! The chicken is cooked to perfection, til the last strip of meat! I tried the Breast/Wing combo. It comes with salad, rice, and beans! It was reallyy good, small hole in the wall place - but service is really friendly!

You gotta figure a place this hard to find being in business for this long is gonna be good. Rolled here with Kirsten A and Julian G. For once we weren't rolling hella deep and it's a good thing. This place only has 10 seats and a few tables (I personally counted the seats). How did I find out about this place? I was messaging with Kirst on FB and we were trying to decide where to eat and I said "I want some bomb ass chicken." So I went on Yelp and searched "bomb ass chicken" near Costa Mesa, CA and this is what came up first. The place looked intriguing and its charm drew me in upon arrival. It's so small you feel like you are in someone's house. Actually, I felt like I was eating in the kitchen because the place is so small and the kitchen is open. We all ordered chicken because that's what they do here at Super Pollo. Appetites were satisfied. My chicken nachos were done right, a solid 3 stars. Kirst really liked her chicken combo plate with special seasoning. Julian had a chicken burrito but I don't think he tasted it at all. You should note there are no TVs here and Julian had to follow the Lakers vs Bulls game on his phone which was tough for him. Also of note is there super spicy hot sauce. Don't be too liberal with it! I was also introduced to a bevvie called "Orange Wave." Boy, have I been missing out.

i wish there were more of these everywhere! i got the chicken quesadilla and i really liked that they were not stingy on the chicken at ALL!!! and might i add, the chicken was on point! i was not expecting it to taste that good....because you know when you go to alerto's or alberto's and any mexican eatery.... chicken is usually dry and just whatever. nuh uh! not here! it was juicy and very tasty. and their red rice is to die for!!! this is why i wish there were more locations because i have never tasted such fluffy red rice!!! it was perfect. the service was super friendly. it's a very small place with little seating but the food is just amazing you can't really say anything bad!!!

I have to say that my happiness can be brought if Orange Bang is available. I think that all serious contenders of hole-in-the-wall mexican food should have it. Thankfully, Super Pollo has that and great chicken. Btw, seating is severely limited. The 'dining' room is about and 12'x6' room and there are 3 patio tables outside. For lunch today, I took a co-worker to this fine establishment. It is not my first time, so I wanted to try something different. My usual is the chicken burrito with garlic butter. My lunch partner went with that option. His thought was that if the chicken was any good, he wasn't able to taste it because there was so much going on in that burrito. The burrito is sizable and it ultimately came apart halfway through his meal. I ventured and went with the chicken nachos. When I first saw it, I was thinking that I may need a taco to hold me over. After eating it, I'm about to slip into a coma. It was good, but not great. Wedges of tortilla were cut and fried to a very deep brown. Chunks of chicken were covered by a layer of cheese, sour cream, guac and pico de gallo. The side of salsa roja (chipotle I think) was tasty, adding the saltiness and spiciness that I love. Stick with the burrito. If you're looking to simply enjoy good roasted chicken, get the half chicken plate. And don't forget the Bang!!!

Armed with a surfeit of positive yelp reviews my husband and I entered this small Mexican chicken hole in the wall. Alas, we left in far worse shape than when we came. Nachos with chicken and chicken taquitos were our undoing. The taquitos were over-fried and tasted a tad too the wrong side of burnt tortilla. The guacamole was sad, too little avocado and too much of everything else. The nachos were okay, but the hours of gut-wrenching agony we both experienced afterwards was more than all of the kaopectate, rolaids and gas-x combined could handle. I don't know if it was the chicken or the excessive grease but we were down and out. Another adventure ends is profound disappointment and gastrointestinal distress.

Pretty good. Really nice guy behind the counter. I had the nachos they were very very filling but nothing about them was amazing. Unfortunately some of the pieces of chicken I had were dry and I also had a few joint/gristle pieces. I imagine that just getting a half or quarter chicken would be the best approach.

Gave this place a couple of tries before writing a review. After trying out their quarter chicken combo meal and a super pollo burrito, I'm convinced in my mind this is a solid 3-star eatery. My quarter meal consisted of a large breast/thigh combo, refried beans, rice, and 4 tortillas for $6. Pretty sweet from a value standpoint, but the chicken wasn't as good as I expected it to be from the reviews here. The garlic-butter-lemony sauce is tasty, but unfortunately only chicken skin-deep. Underneath is a decent, not dry but not very juicy piece of meat. Like I said, 3-stars.

I made an account for the sole purpose of giving super pollo 5 stars. The super breakfast quesadillas are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I seriously come here just for them. Breakfast stops at 11 though :( They give you 4 different types of meat to choose from: bacon, chorizo, machaca, and chicken. Machaca = king of all marinated beef, forever. The people that work there are really friendly, the food is great, and the place has a lot of character. Oh yeah the hot sauce is freaking incredible.

Nothing special, very unauthentic Mexican food made by Mexicans. Lettuce in the burritos, what's up with that? Might as well stop at Del Taco nearby.

This is an institution, one of costa mesa's best kept secrets. Many drive by but few enter. If you have been curious, go on in. You won't be dissapointed! Tender chicken, lots of flavor. Its like el pollo loco times 1,0000

i'm not a big rotisserie chicken person because it can get very dry. not here sir! this is going to be my go to lunch place until i get sick of eating it three times a week. the prices are pretty amazing. for 6.99, you get more tortillas than one person could ever finish (i think 5-6), two large pieces of chicken, rice, beans and salsa. i ordered the lemon butter and garlic sauce and wow! the chicken was so flavorful and juicy and the skin was a perfect crisp. it didn't taste oily or fattening. it was like el pollo loco on crack. at a cheaper price. i'll definitely be going back to try their other menu items: quesadilla, tortas, taquitos, etc. minus a quarter star because parking here is a little tough but circle around for a bit and you might find some street parking.

I love their chicken and carne asada tacos. Get the garlic lemon butter on it if you really want to kick it up a notch. Only reason not five stars is the place is tiny and parking can be tight.

SO GOOD. This is legitimate fresh mexican food right here, and it's super cheap! It's a tiny place, but when it's crowded it's worth the wait. I recommend the super pollo burrito- the guac is to die for.

You know the old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover"? Remember that the first time you go go to Super Pollo. It's pretty much a "hole-in-the-wall". There are three maybe four tables inside, parking is limited, & truth be told, from the outside, it's not a pretty sight. But you just have to trust me on this one, Super Pollo is incredible. They do Mexican food, specializing in grilled & roasted chicken... basically they are an authentic version of El Pollo Loco. Super Pollo offers whole, half & quarter chicken combos as well as chicken, carne asada, or fish burritos, quesadillas, tacos & more. My personal favorite? The Super Chicken Quesadilla. It's HUGE. They start with a tortilla add grilled chicken, Monterey & Cheddar cheese, then load it up with fresh salsa, guacamole & lettuce. It's less of a quesadilla, and more of a very flat burrito. I'm getting hungry just typing about it. Really & truly, if you've never been, you really need to check out Super Pollo. They do breakfast, lunch & dinner and everything on the menu is available for take-out. The prices are great, the portions are huge & EVERYTHING is delicious. Yum!

I love this place with all of my heart!!! It looks like a little crappy hole in the wall from the outside, but they make the most amazing lemon garlic chicken!!! Its so tender it friggin fall off of the bone.... its also slightly crispy on the outside.. which i really love. the 1/2 chicken combo comes with rice, beans, corn tortillas, pico, and a spicier salsa. its kind of like el pollo loco but a million times better... it basically shits on el pollo loco. I've also had their chicken enchiladas, and those are also very good. Their carne asada burrito was just okay... just stick with the chicken and you'll be okay. :)

I can't believe that I have passed by this place for so many years without ever stopping to try them out. I had the Super Chicken Burrito yesterday for lunch only because my truck would not fit in Del Tacos parking lot and the only parking that I could find was right accross the street from Super Pollo. (Yes, the curb is red there but I was hungry.) Instead of fighting the crowd at Del, I opted to try this place out. The seeting is scarce both inside and out. Super friendly staff. I let them know that it was my first time there and the gentleman behind the counter made a few suggestions and assured me that "everything" is delicious. I can't wait to try everything now!

  • Philip S.

The chicken is great. Lemon garlic butter all the way. They also make a mean salsa. There's no place to sit unless you go at 3 pm and your car won't it in the four parking spaces in front which car barely fit a scooter. The reason they get one star off is buying a whole chicken is $16. That's too much and makes no sense since their combo plates are the same price as everyone else. But I eat here anyway, I just get the combo with rice and beans.

For those of y'all who know me, you'd know that I be lovin' me some chicken, like a black woman should. And the bird at this place satisfied me like no other. If you think you're hungry now, wait until tonight, girl. So good, so good, it'll put your ass to sleep. What I don't understand is who would NOT choose "Garlic, Lemon AND Butter" seasoning if given the choice (the other options are "Garlic & Butter", "Lemon & Butter", and "Plain".

My boyfriend and I used to drive by this place all the time on our way to Omelette Parlor and we would always laugh at how ghetto and small it looked. Eventually, curiousity got the best of us and we looked it up on yelp. Turns out that there were quite a few rave reviews so we decided to check it out and turns out, the reviews were right. This place has some of the best chicken I've ever tried. I used to have El Pollo Loco when I was younger because I liked roasted chicken instead of fried, but this place blows El Pollo Loco out of the water. The chicken was juicy and had so much flavor in it. I got the quarter combo with dark meat and all the flavors (they'll list some stuff, just say yes). The drumstick especially was juicy and flavorful and really made me tempted to order another one. However, the chicken came with rice, beans, tortillas, salsa, a roasted jalapeno and I ordered fries on the side so I was plenty full by the time I was done. You can make your own little burritos or tacos with the tortillas (either corn or flour) or just dive into the chicken as is. Both ways are amazing, so you can't go wrong. The fries were average, nothing major, but tasted pretty darn good dunked in the thinner salsa. The total for all of that food was under 9 bucks! Seating here can be a problem because there were only three tables inside and three tables outside. We didn't have a problem getting a table, but we can for a late lunch so the rush had already passed. This is definitely one of those places you wouldn't think to go into unless you were brought there by someone else or you read all these great reviews on Yelp. It's absolutely worth the trip, so pack up the kids and go to Super Pollo!

Love, LOVE this place! I usually get the chicken tostada w/ the garlic lemon butter and it is so good! The salsa here is pretty tasty too! The only downside is that the place is small... there's only a couple small tables to sit indoors, and some outside seating. it is more of a take out or a quick bite to eat place... not good for big groups.

I forgot to ask for utensils, and ended up digging into my quarter chicken combo with gusto. My parents would be so proud seeing me eat rice with my hands. Even used a chicken bone to scoop the beans. I feel so Flintstone. Was pleased by my meal, but was even happier I had read the reviews. Hole-in-the-wall is so true. Was impressed that they not only take credit cards, but they offer meals with 100 pieces of chicken (?!). The nice man in front of me warned that my meal would be "a lot of food". Fortunately for me, I can handle it. Service was kind, and I just wish there was a better place to wait than a foot away from the folks sitting down. I want to come back for breakfast.

This place has some of the best Mexican food around. The portions are amazing and quite large. The 2 burritos I have had here have been amazing. The food is very fresh and the meat is marinated. It leaves a wonderful flavor in your mouth. It is not an easy place to find, its off on a side street and you have to make sure you do not go to far and pass it. The carne asada and pollo burritos are amazing. You get fresh guacamole inside, salsa, lettuce, beans and marinated meat thats fantastic. The place is very small inside yet its a great atmosphere. You can see your meat being cooked behind the register on the grills. This is probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in Orange County.

I picked up food to go from Super Pollo tonight... I LOVE THE WET CHICKEN BURRITO. (it is a burrito with enchilada sauce on top)... (I did not however enjoy the piece of bone that was in my burrito) I LOVE THE SAUTEED JALAPENOS... I LOVE THE ORANGE BANG and the TAMARINDO DRINKS.... I LOVE THE ARROZ.... as you can tell I have been here more than once... The staff are rad.... There is a lot to choose from the menu.. The place is small.... They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner....The food is good.... and it is cheap..

Awesome mexican food specializing in roast chicken (think El Pollo, but edible). Great prices. Last time I was here I had just had lasik so I was pretty much blind. Doesn't that mean my taste buds were heightened? That must have been why that burrito tasted so damn good. You MUST choke on this chicken!

Average chicken place. Nothing to go run home about. The guy at the front was a dick...that almost sent them to a 2 rating but I dont want to give Yelpers an unfair bais. This place is ok for chicken. I'd still prefer a Pollo Loco for similar stuff but with slightly better quality and flavor.

I ordered a whole chicken. I received 8 cut pieces including 1 breast and 3 legs. Mutant chicken? The thighs were nice and juicy but the breast was incredibly dry. $13.50?! I would rather much go to Boston Market for $9 or El Pollo Loco.

My GF had been wanting to try this place for quite sometime now; I normally like to stick to familiar places or places I have heard good things about. So we Yelped it, and saw overall great reviews. I ordered the carne asada burrito, an my GF the chicken burrito. All seemed fine until 4 bites in, a gnarly hair uncovers it'self from the tortilla blanket, which pretty much ruined everything. I then glanced over by chance to see the sweaty cook wearing a cap 4 times too small for his head, so I knew where it came from. This would have gotten a way better review if this place was semi sanitary.

This stuff is like crack. You now you shouldnt be doing it, but you keep going back! I have been addicted for the last 7 years. For me there is only one thing to order, the half chicken combination. If I am feeling extra dirty I will ask to get it with all dark meat! And for the love of god when they ask you garlic, lemon, butter, spices? just say YES. I cant phatom why anyone would get it plain or without anyone of these ingredients. Also, remember to ask for one of the grilled jalapenos! Some people might be put off by the location or the lack of seating, but it just makes the experience that much better. PS. I wish I lived closer so I could check out their breakfast items. The super omellete just sounds amazing and just a little over $5.

Hungry? Super Pollo comes to the rescue! This place is tucked in an out of the way street close to Triangle Square in Costa Mesa. Brian S. and I were trying to decide what to have for dinner, and once we stopped here and smelled the garlicky, buttery goodness, we had to try it. There is no fluff about the food... you have a choice of their grilled chicken (served El Pollo Loco style, but oh so much better) or a variety of burritos and other dishes. I had the half chicken combination, which came with (other than the half chicken) tortillas, beans, rice, salsa, and a giant grilled jalapeno. It was delicious! I had one dry piece of chicken out of the bunch, but the rest were tender and juicy. You MUST get the lemon garlic butter sauce on top. This is what brings the chicken its super powers! Cheap food, clean and laid back dining area, super pollo... you can't go wrong! Be sure to check it out!

Breakfast review only. We have been to Super Pollo 3 times in the last two weeks because their breakfast is amazing. We have tried both their super breakfast burrito and breakfast quesadilla. Both are delicious breakfast choices. I think the quesadilla has more fillings. I can't comment on the meat since we didn't get any. I also always get their fresh squeezed orange juice with a side of ice. It is so good. This is now our go-to breakfast burrito place. I see many more visits in our future.

Highly Recommended for anyone and everyone. The service is super friendly and very fast, and if you're really in a hurry just phone in your order and pick it up! The chicken at Super Pollo can not be compared to any other chicken on the market... it is so fresh, moist, and tender from the first bite to the very last nibble off of the bone. Like many other yelpers, I would suggest getting the lemon or garlic chicken. It throws an exotic taste into the chicken and makes it that much better! Everything is good here, from the tortillas, to the chicken, rice, and throw it all together in a burrito and you have a little piece of heaven! :D Super Pollo is a take-out restaurant, therefore, has limited seating, but is usually always available (because most people do take-out vs. sit in) and is for the most part surprisingly comfortable for just a table and chair. To get to Super Pollo take Newport Blvd. to Superior (Right) or 17th to Superior (Right) and it is tucked away behind the old Tower Records Building. Yay for Super Pollo! On a side note, I'd suggest getting the horchata... muy delicioso!

I love cheap hole in the wall places, so I thought Super Pollo and I would be a good fit. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I got the chicken burrito and was not impressed. At all. It came with chicken, pinto beans, lettuce, salsa, and guacamole. Sounds delicious, right? Nope. I don't want to spend too much time bashing Super Pollo, so let's just say the main problem was there were many pieces of chicken in my burrito that were not edible. Too many tough, chewy, could-have-been-mistaken-for-bones pieces... it was gross. I got half way through and gave it to my boyfriend. He wasn't all that impressed either. El Pollo Loco has better chicken burritos. I guess I will just stick with them next time.

Tiffany L. is right!!! Don't waste your time or money on this place. I used to come here when I was a little kid and I remember it just how everyone describes it. I went here tonight with my girlfriend and we got what everyone recommended. The chicken was plain and dry, we even had extra sauce! Overall I was very unimpressed. I usually don't let one bad review deter me from trying a new place on yelp but I promise you aren't missing out on anything. El pollo loco is better.

After a day of kayaking and soaking up the sun, the fella brought me to Super Pollo to replenish ourselves. The only thing I recall him raving about was the signature Lemon Garlic chicken and how it's the best thing on the menu. Easily sold, we ordered the 1/2 chicken combo and a side of carne asada nachos (my personal fave bar type food.) The Lemon Garlic chicken was amazingly tender and moist on the inside with a zesty crisp on the outside. I would have liked more, but the butter on top of the already greasy rotisserie-like chicken was a tad too much for my palette. I however, indulged in the tasty nachos! Nothing out of the ordinary, just your plate of chips, guacamole, sour cream, beans, cheese, and choice of meat. I, however, especially liked the chips because they were thicker cut (thicker cut = crispier and maintains texture longer!) One downsize about the place is the sparse parking. If you're lucky, there are about 4-5 spots in front of the small shop. Otherwise, try street parking.

I don't like to be lied to.....why did you lie Yelp?.... WHY DID YOU LIE?!?!!?!!?! WHHHYYYYY!?!?!?! I always love ghetto holes in the wall... They are what give places "Pizazz" and "Thumbs Up".... NOT HERE!!....besides the lack of parking... and seating... It made up for the lack with tons of sticky tables... and crappy Cable TV. I ordered (Tried to) a thight and wing combo and Hubbs ordered aTaco Combo.... ..The fat Hombre behinde the counter was smashing beans like he was pissed at the world... and ignored us.... even though he and I basically had a "Stare Off' for 5 minutes. What what?!!?!? Is this racial profiling or is this just super shitty service? Am I not tan enough to eat at your tiny establishment?!?! BOOOO!!!!! When I finally did get to place my order.. it was with a sweaty teenager.. who then took my cash... and walked out the door to his truck.... (I did not see him afterwards). My food: Like a baby bird wing and a "thigh"... that was a drumette. So hard.. so dry.. no flavor. My combo was a spoonful of shitty dry rice and a spittle of beans. Hubbs got ONE taco.... for his TACOS combo. NO!! NO!! I'm not a snob when it comes to food.. I will eat bacon off the peachfuzz from a Hobo's anus, but I DESERVE to have EITHER great service or AMAZING FOOD. I didn't care for the crappy food or the crappy tude.... I'm sad. Was really looking forward to a yummy grub hole where I will be moving to.

I was informed about this place through a buddy of mine that isn't the biggest fan of chicken. That sounds like a nice referral to me! First time I came I was a little disappointed, with chicken you can have dryness if you aren't too careful with your white meat and it was just alright. Nothing to brag about. Second time I came I happened to be in the area and decided to try it again. The person behind the counter was super chill, funny, and was more then willing to help out my out of her elements confused aunt. Good job, and the food tasted better too! The chicken wasn't super super good, but I was glad I gave it this place a second shot. I would be happy to come to Super Pollo when I'm close by and want some pretty darn good chicken.

Simple mexican fare. Been here too many times to count since I work right down the road. Chicken can be awesome. It really depends on the day. Sometimes its unreal. Other times it can be rubbery and undercooked. For lunch and dinner I usually go with a whole or half chicken with rice and beans. Most of the times its awesome but again I could not give five stars bc its just inconsistent. Breakfast is the best actually. Get the BACON OMLETE you will not be disappointed. Its that good.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review about this place. There is nothing bad I can say. Ever. My buddy first took me here when he was on an ambulance route in the neighborhood. I have high standards for mexican food because I worked in the industry for so long. Let me be the first to say this is top of the list. I have tried one of everything on that menu, but there are a few classics I love every time. When we walk in the folks know us, they remember our orders (two times a week for a few years will do that). Then when we don't show up it is like a celebration the next time we walk in. They never skimp on any portion, it is always enough for everyone. The salsa is amazing. Grab a few friends, a couple plates of food (see pollo burrito and carne asada nachos) and go sit on the patio and enjoy some great food!

Usually there are no complaints for Super Pollo, but when I ordered food last night, they didn't add the garlic sauce to my tacos!! That's the best part for flavor :( I was so bummed out.

This place is a nice hidden gem in the Newport-Mesa area. The chicken is always made fresh, and the portions are ridiculous. I'm a fan of the taquitos, nachos and the chicken plates. I'm not too impressed with the fish options. Major downside... the place is tiny, and ordering to-go is the only any to go. The parking is pretty lame... I usually park down the street and walk.

Wow. Rinky dink place but the chicken that comes out of this place is amazing !! I had the garlic lemon chicken with rice and beans. HELLO yumminess. The chicken is crispy, and that tomatillo hot sauce is to DIE FOR. Corn tortillas, flour tortillas and the added bonus DIET COKE !

I grub here about once a week. Hearty good size breakfast burritos w/ good pricing. I always phone my orders in & they are always ready.

Food is good, especially their chicken burritos...customer service stinks especially if they are busy. Went to grab a burrito on a sunday around 11 and there was 4 people in front of me and 4 people working in the kitchen and it took 35 minutes to get a stupid burrito! Ugh! Don't come here if your in a rush. Just about told them to take the order and forget it.

Super soft chicken that melts off the bones...yummy! And the best part? Soft cartilage that melts off the bones! Double yummy! This review is only for the chicken because that's all I eat when I go here. It's soooo good with the butter and EXTRA garlic! This family-owned tiny restaurant has low prices, friendly service, awesome food & located close to the beach with many regular customers. Warning: don't burp in the presence of others after you eat here because you will lose friends!

We went there today and ordered a combo meal. The food was surprising good. Seems like a good small business. The guy that took our order was nice and friendly.

I am a HUGE fan of Charo Chicken, so when I saw that this place also had garlic-lemon-butter sauce, I was immediately intrigued. Decided to give it a shot on the way to the airport and see if it held a candle to my charbroiled chicken champion. Prices are fair - whole chicken combo complete with rice, beans, salsa, and tortillas is about $16. Chicken was moist and tender with nice, crispy skin. Tomatillo salsa was surprisingly hot - didn't expect it considering this *is* close to Newport. The flour tortillas were super soft and chewy with great taste. The coveted sauce, however, was waaaay too garlicky. I'm all for garlic, but this overpowered the lemon and the butter so much that it was all I could taste for the next six hours. Charo Chicken's sauce is much more refined, with the right balance of all three flavors. All in all, I was happy with my meal, and if I didn't know about Charo Chicken, I would have been thrilled. This is a good substitute for those in the Costa Mesa/Newport area that don't have a Charo franchise near them.

Ordered up some chicken nachos and because my eyes are bigger than my stomach, a carne asada taco. either they gave me two tacos, or the corn tortillas slipped and this was a very large taco. real good. cant go without ordering the chicken nachos. its the go to item.

A GREAT HOLE IN THE WALL SPOT!! not a mexican place...I mean kinda...but not really...but a HOLE IN THE WALL SPOT FOR CHICKEN! Ive had the burrito...eh...and the tostada...eh (p.s. the tostadas that they serve here are in your everday and normal Bowl...they just use nacho chips...so aka a Tostada is a non-warmed up/cold Nachos...weird right? Anyways...this place is known for their chicken...its just OK. If you taste the chicken by itself...its average and EH....BUT IF YOU ADD THE AMAZING GARLIC AND LEMON BUTTER....oohhh man...IT MAKES IT THAT MUCH BETTER! THIS IS DEF. A GREATER SPOT THANT EL POLLO LOCCO!! UNTIL THEN!! ^-^

  • Rupesh S.

One of the few Mexican joints I can leave feeling good about. By that, I mean my stomach isn't over ridden with food coma after one of their burritos. Simply put: Great choice for a chicken burrito with neutral flavors. The chicken is indeed "super" and that is the reason I keep coming back. As for their other items, I have not yet tried them, nor do I plan on it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" *Tip: Ask for Garlic Sauce in your burrito and also mention "checking-in" on Yelp to receive a free drink!

  • Diane N.

This place is a serious hole in the wall, it's hidden off the side of a road and I wouldn't know it was a restaurant from the outside. But the food was excellent and came in large fresh portions, the staff was very friendly, and they have a tv!

  • Alyssa S.

Hidden behind Del Taco & Kragen is a little hidden secret... SUPER POLLO. Yes it is super & it is pollo. What to Purchase: Whole Chicken (Garlic Butter), Refried Beans (very yum), Rice (super fluffy & fresh), Guacamole (BOMB!). Put all of that into their fresh and thin tortillas & it is SUPER POLLO! Yet another one of Costa Mesa's hidden gems!

What can I say that hasn't been said already. This place is a little hard to find, its tucked away behind odd street formations on both sides, and after finding it you better hope that at least one of the three parking spots is open. When you step inside you realize how truly tiny the place is. There's about 4 tables inside and 2 outside, with a bathroom about half the size of the dining room. This is a small, family owned place with a cozy feel. I always get the chicken burrito and drench it in the little red salsa they give you which is AMAZING. They even sell it by the cup on the side just so you know how popular it is. Also, if you order the quesadilla dont expect a flimsy tortilla filled with cheese, because its just as big and stuffed as the burritos as hard as it is to believe. I brought my mom here once and she loved every bit of this place, even though she despises eating out.

We're in town for my friend's wedding and craving good ol' Cali Mexican food. I may be the only person on earth that isn't partial to chicken. But guess what? The friendly bunch @ Super Pollo whipped up a batch of the. tastiest. carne. asada. nachos. especially for me. Super rico! Why oh why are you located 2000 miles away from Chicago?

    (4)
  • Michael A.

Their chicken is definitely super! The rotisserie chicken is amazing. It comes with a delicious garlic-lemon-butter, and it simply puts El Pollo Loco to shame. Chicken comes with tortillas and salsa (and rice and beans for an additional .85). I've been eating here for years and it is consistently good. Their chicken nachos are also the BOMB. Outstanding, the way nachos should be. Burrito and quesadilla were average, and I didn't care for their carne asada. I think if you eat here, you should stick with the rotisserie chick and the nachos.

After eyeing it a few months ago we finally ordered takeout from Super Pollo, it's a few minutes from our apartment and I love discovering new hole in the wall joints. We shared the half chicken combo with garlic butter. The combo includes about 4 warm tortillas (flour and corn), beans, rice, homemade tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The chicken soo full of flavor, and just a tiny bit dry! The flavorful, crispy skin was piled with garlic and seasonings...perfect for those who despise bland food. It mixed well with the refried beans and cheese and the other sides they offered, the garlic Mexican food combo works. The tomatillo salsa was a winning recipe, it too was super spicy and I was able to use it in place of Cholula! This would have been a 4.5 star review based on the food, if not for a couple issues. The guacamole was left out of my order. The tortillas ripped, they'd been stuck together in the packaging offered. Most irritating, the cashier was unprofessional...I don't think he was trying to be a jerk. After telling an immature joke that wasn't well received (I was visibly annoyed) instead of just finishing up the order, he asked me if I was "having a bad day." No, I was having a great day before you decided to rudely waste my time! I would go back again and opt for takeout because Super Pollo is super tiny and I wouldn't want to deal with the staff again.

This is THE definition of a hole-in-the-wall joint. Not only is it teeny tiny, its location is to the right of a V shaped road. When I first came here I was really questioning my presence...BUT, I took it back shortly after. Lemon garlic chicken. 1/2 order. Tortillas, rice, beans. You can get pico from them just by asking for it. Same with the garlic butter. The grilled chicken is crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, exploding with lemony flavor. Superly Pollorific. Rest assured, it is anything but bland. An additional order of carne asada nachos leaves you full beyond belief. I've also tried their huge wet chicken burrito. You know those styrofoam containers with 3 divided sections? In the largest section that occupies half a hemisphere sits the wet burrito. Same thing: rice, beans, guac/pico. Again, ask for the garlic butter. This place is like a el pollo loco on steroids, hence the name "Super" pollo I guess. I think it should be called Super Pollo Loco

I enjoyed my dinner, but didn't love it. I really was hoping this was like the old El Pollo Ranch Cafe that was in HB years ago, but it's not. That said I ordered the chicken with the lemon, garlic, butter. Way too garlicky and not moist like I thought it should be. The salsa was also just so-so for me. The parking sucks and it's really small in there so I felt like we needed to take it home. We had left overs and none of us touched them so they found the round file several days later. I really prefer BC Broiler on Newport Blvd over this place.

Ill keep it short, and sweet. This place is a great, "hey lets go here, because we havent been in forever" kind of place. Food is delicious, but not to kill or die for. My advice, get the half/full chicken, get the garlic butter on it; you just ordered the best dish on the menu. Youre welcome... ak

Very impressed! I had a carne asada burrito and a chicken taco. The wife had a chicken taquitos. I was very pleased. I was hoping for some salsa with a little more kick, but I bet if I had asked, they might have produced something spicier. But I really enjoyed the flavor of everything. This place does it right, and they had Fox Soccer Channel on, which probably should be worth another half of star, if I could do halves. Why can't we do halves here? Everything else in life can be split in half. Watermelons, burritos, circles. Divorce can even award a half to each party. Why can't Yelp allow half ratings??? Very tender and very tasty food. A definite recommend.

Awesome food. always fresh homemade taste. If ya like homemade Mexican food this little hole in the wall is it. I've been coming here for lunch for 25 years. This place is too small for big groups but I usually get takeout so that's okay. Not a fast food taco garbage place..Try the chicken chili relleno.Or the homemade chicken soup.

  • Brandon S.

I went Super Pollo on recommendation of my friend. Awesome chicken with lemon butter and garlic! I've not tried anything else and probably won't! This is my favorite go-to for chicken. Damn its delicious! Occasionally a little dry but the lemon garlic butter makes it all ok. Just a little hole in the wall but damn good! I tell all my friends to try Super Pollo!

    (4)
  • Brian H.

I live in Newport Beach and Super Pollo is on my way home from work. I have been going here for years and absolutely love it. It's family owned and you just can't beat their friendly service, price and quality of their food. Trust me you will love it!

    (5)
  • Shamoo S.

I got the half chicken with shebang sauce and I think the chicken is not much flavor by itself. The skin is not as crispy as i thought it would. I actually really like carna asada tacos which really tasty. Cant go wrong with the fresh squeeze orange juice..

Once upon a time, a chicken and a clove of garlic met each other at a school dance. It was love at first sight, but the clove's parents didn't approve of the chicken. As a result, the clove and the chicken had to date secretly for years. Finally, the clove's parents approved of their relationship, and the chicken and the clove got married. They had one child, that I mistakenly ate last time I was at Super Pollo. The kid was freaking delicious, a chicken so tender that the meat was melting off the bone. The skin was crispy and covered in, you guessed it, garlic. The kid's little friends, the rice and beans were great. The tortillas tasted homemade and the salsa was gooood. The only place that even touches the quality of this place is on Isla Mujeres in Mexico. Since you're probably not going there, I totally recommend Super Pollo. I tried this place from it's reviews on Yelp and man, you guys were right.

Really really delicious chicken combos, the garlic seasoning is tasty without being overpowering, and the chicken has never been overcooked. Call ahead for to-go orders, otherwise you might be waiting a while.

    (4)
  • Cynthia A.

Tasty, insanely garlicy chicken! Rice complements it really well and they have the tastiest guac I've ever had! Something different about it, can't figure it out but it is damn good. Stuff it all in a nice warm flour tortilla and you're good to go.

    (4)
  • Tito Y.

Super Pollo is a all about spicy consumption, tasty cluckling, and washing it down with soda. What ever you do, don't eat the whole thing, because the burritos are big enough to be designated as a nuclear bomb, the enchiladas count as a tsunami wave, and there is enough chips would coat a city park. All I can say is that if you leave here hungry after a eating a one of their meals... you probably own your own stomach pump.

    (4)
  • Jackie P.

Needed some takeout while watching the Oscars and decided to check out Super Pollo. It's basically the ungringo-fied version of El Pollo Loco. Their specialty is chicken with sides of rice, beans, and tortillas. Plus you can opt for having garlic lemon sauce on it...yummy. They give you a ton of tortillas too, I got 6 with my quarter chicken meal. Lots of food for cheap. I would probably only consider El Pollo Loco over here since you can get healthier sides there. But when I want some kick ass chicken, rice, and beans....Super Pollo it is! BTW, it's totally hole in the wall and pretty small.

    (4)
  • Snacklepuss B.

Best chicken I've ever had...lemon-garlicky wonderfulness. Maybe I'll get in my car and drive there this weekend because I'm now going to obsess over it the rest of the week, but, alas, it's a 2-hour drive away from me & I want some now, but not enough to deal with the 405 freeway on a Monday afternoon!

    (5)
  • Gabriel F.

This place is the real deal if you like El Pollo Loco. It's super clean, well made food and fresh unlike the corporate crap.

  • Meredith W.

Who could resist a resturant named super pollo, with a huge chicken mural painted on the side? Ummm not me. Ive been here twice. The first time i had a pollo burrito, and that was quite tasty. They marinate the chicken in that red stuff, im not sure what the heck it is... but it always leaves chicken extremly moist and flavorfull. Its delicious. The second time i came in i ordered a chorizo burrito, and I wasnt as thrilled. It was the pink sausage type, not the greasy red-orange type. I like grease. Anywho, i would definatley go back for anything but breakfast.

    (4)
  • Marc D.

After glancing over the other reviews I think I may have to try it again but my friend and I both left satisfied but unimpressed. I figure it is just that I don't think there is better mexican in the area than ETB although Super Pollo is good.

    (3)
  • Justin C.

This place smells so good - i think its the roasting chicken and garlic smells that are so enticing. While the food might be tasty, the second time I went there I got a chicken burrito to go and unfortunately there was an aspirin sized pebble in it! Needles to say I wont be back. I go to BC broiler instead.

    (1)
  • Fresh I.

It's authentic Mexican food cooked with an American style twist. For example at an authentic Mexican food spot there's only beans rice meat. Super Pollo does it a little different they have lettuce I believe and other style things that in my eye makes it more gringo. I have never been done wrong there in all the times I go. Tell the guy you want a "chingon burrito" he'll know who sent you!

    (5)
  • Jahciple A.

The place is not that big, it's like a hole in the wall type of place. I've only tried their chicken meal with rice and beans. But the chicken was so good, almost like Char-O Chicken with lemon, garlic, and butter. I would recommend this place. It's not expensive either.

    (5)
  • OCgirl H.

I love hole in the wall Mexican food that is authentic tasting. This place is so good and cheap. I typically don't get the chicken combo meals but instead I get their tacos (size of junior burritos), burritos, and I absolutely love their rice and beans (sometimes they do have off days though). There isn't much room to eat but a few small tables and patio tables. Their chips are homemade and their salsa is great too! I've been coming to this place for years and I would highly recommend you try them out! Also, in the summer months during lunch, it gets really busy so expect a line.

  • Admired Drunk V.

Stumbled upon this place by accident. Best accident I've ever had. Definitely the best charbroiled chicken in town....Don't judge the exterior or even the dirty interior cuz you are in for a huge disappointment....If you can surpass all this, you're in for a huge treat....Chicken is A+++++++++++++ and very healthy. Quality is TOP NOTCH here!!! I guarantee once you try it, you'll hurry back for more like a 15 year old getting laid for his first time....%------)~

  • Kerry Michael F.

If you are looking for a good hole-in-the-wall mexican place... you've found it. No grades, no table cloths, no snotty college waitress... just really good food. I'm I huge fan of the half chichen combo with butter garlic and more garlic! Don't forget the deep fried jalapeno or incredible breakfast burritos! Give them a shot... but call ahead, the place is getting crowded... perhaps due to Yelp?

    (5)
  • chai g.

Oh damn this chicken is good. You will never eat at El Pollo Loco after eating here. Burritos? You can get those anywhere. Stick with the flame broiled chicken, in either the lemon or garlic flavors (I prefer the garlic). This chicken will melt in your mouth. Have lots of napkins at the ready as it's messy and yes, take-out is highly recommended as seating is limited (but never crowded). It's a take-out joint what do you expect?

    (5)
  • Anonymous D.

This place is owned and operated by a really nice family. I highly recommend their taquitos and nachos, which I've been eating for the last 20 years. The service and food is top notch!

  • Ron A.

Went here tonite with my roomate to satisfy my craving for the chicken with garlic lemon butter! Have been here more than once and usually order the half chicken plate with dark meat. Next time, I will have to try the grilled jalepaneo The chicken was perfect! Juicy, moist and tender! Really, using your hands and getting the garlicy buttery goodness on you makes it taste better. Standard rice + beans. Can't wash down the meal without a orange bang or horchata. Never dissapoints!

YUM JUST GO! I had a chicken burrito and i inhaled it.

  • Tom C.

I've been meaning to try this place for a long time and finally got around to it. It's a cool little place with a nice patio and the staff is very friendly. I ordered the quarter chicken combo and it came with beans, rice, and tortillas on the side. The chicken was good and tender, but I wasnt a big fan of the lemon garlic butter flavor. But overall it was a solid meal and I'm glad I tried it. I left full as well which is always a plus for me. Note: I hear from a friend that the chicken nachos are the way to go here. Next time I would probably try those or just get the chicken plain.

    (4)
  • Greg S.

Although this place is very low key, it's almost too popular to classify as hole in the wall type. But, this is a definite must try. Everything I've had here is good and if you don't know what you want just ask them, if they're not too busy. They are very nice and will cater to your individual orders. Hell, if they like you, they just might throw in a little extra. It's also inexpensive, so checking it out wont hurt the wallet.

  • Jalal B.

Best chicken in South orange county hands down!

    (5)

This place is one of the best values in Orange County. The chicken is stellar and the carne asada is tremendous. Get the burrito stuffed with carne asada. It is sheer heaven!

yum! friendly service at this hole-in-the-wall on the way out to newport beach. i tried the quarter chix combo with dark meat. the garlic on the roasted chicken was too too delicious! good sides and lots of salsa and tortillas served along. watch out for the grilled pepper it is HOT. great place to go for lunch and sit out on the patio in the cool breeze. good times =D enjoy! love this place. the garlic chicken is where it's at. it's a hole in the wall place which i always have an affinity to. slightly overpriced, but worth the extra cost. my wife gets the quesadilla, which is really just a huge soft taco. this place is definitely good eats and worth trying.

I will always have a soft spot for small burrito joints. Super Pollo is no exception.

  • marcus b.

The first time I came here was in 1991 while in high school. I don't live in Costa Mesa any longer, but I still stop by Super Pollo when I'm in the neighborhood. Anything with chicken in it is great, usually I get a quesadilla, tacos, or nachos. This place is a family run business that serves a consistently good product for a very good price. I don't know what more you can ask for.

    (5)
  • Diane S.

I can't tell you too much about this place because I always order exactly the same thing...the muy delicioso (?) vegetarian burrito. I've turned my carnivorous friends on to it and now that's what they order. The thing has got to weigh 1.5 lbs. and is so freaking delicious with beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, lettuce and pico...and their salsa can't be beat. Plus, the people that own the biz and work there are sooooo nice.

    (4)
  • Derek M.

Think of this place as el pollo loco but much better very moist and juicy chicken, gota love the fact that you can smell the garlic and lemon sauce. very small place but pretty delicious 3.0 stars

  • Jesse P.

Everything I have eaten here is really good and very well priced. If you want good Mexican food this is a great place to go to. The cook and cut up the chicken right there if front of you eyes. When I go I usually get there super burrito, well worth it and barely fits in your hands.

    (5)
  • Darren H.

When my friend first took me here about 7 years ago I didn't think much of it by looking at the outside. But he said to trust him, and I am sure glad I did. Some of the best chicken anywhere. I love this place. The prices aren't bad either. I try to hit this place as often as I can.

  • Oliver H.

This tiny restaurant doesn't look like much, hole in the wall, 3 tables inside, but this where you will find some of the yummiest chicken you've ever had. It's basically the authentic version of El Pollo Loco. Grilled chicken covered with a rich garlic, lemon, butter sauce paired with tortillas, rice, beans and salsa. The chicken is moist and flavorful, although there was one occasion where mine was a bit dry. Definitely a comfort food to try.

I have never had better chicken tacos. Super Pollo has been a family favorite for many years. There is only limited seating, and it is not particularly comfortable, but the food is great, and the red salsa is excellent.

We live right down the street, so we like to eat here a lot. The chicken is really very good, get it with lemon, garlic and butter. I've always stuck with the combo plate, although my boyfriend likes the burritos. Agree with previous review, plan to take out because this place is tiny.

    (4)
  • Wenny L.

juicy and moist chicken. grill jalapino goes really good with it. the garlic sauce is extremely strong. fish taco is not bad as well. their breakfast burrito pictures look amazing on the menu. i have to go back and try it.

  • Justin W.

Tucked away behind Tower Records in the mess of streets that is the Costa Port Bermuda Triangle. The roasted chicken is outstanding but the sauces are lacking and the wait time can be rather long. Definitely stick to the chicken combination plates and you will be happy. Also, plan on taking your food home or to a park as they have little to no seating and you really don't want to eat outside on their benches as there has yet to be a day I have not had my plate blow away.

big nachos, huge bean and cheese burritos (so good, you must eat the WHOLE thing)...not a place to go if you're watching the waistline. i haven't been in a while since juan, the guy who works there told me i was getting fat. i wonder why? could it have been the HUGE burritos?

Mexican Cuisine
